Matt Vancil launches Orcish Dictionary Kickstarter
over 9 years ago – Tue, Nov 22, 2016 at 10:40:26 PM

Hey, everyone!

We're nearing the finish line on JQ3, with just a little more to do on final music, sound, and credits. Digital backer release is on track for December!

Meanwhile, so many of you submitted cool Orcish words to Matt Vancil that he got inspired to create a second edition of the Orcish/English dictionary, which he is Kickstarting right now.

Check it out!

If you ordered a 1st Edition dictionary in BackerKit and would like to cancel that so you can pledge for this instead, please do so ASAP, as we're locking down pledges by the end of November.

Oh, and here's a sneak peek at Day 1 of Christian's Director's Diary...

JQ3 BackerKit Launches Friday
over 9 years ago – Thu, Sep 08, 2016 at 11:43:36 PM

Yesterday we opened up BackerKit to 500 pledges to test the system. It worked pretty well, but also revealed a few edge cases for people who supported both JQ3 and our Patreon. We spent today working with BackerKit to make a few changes to the process and are now ready to launch to everyone by tomorrow!

Because it's so big, surveys will go out in batches.

Here are a few tips to make the process easier:

  • We are charging shipping in BackerKit. If your reward level already includes shipping, it will auto-calculate.
  • We are charging VAT in BackerKit. If you indicate shipping to an EU country, VAT will be added to your shipping cost.
  • If you pledged for any level less than the $50 reward AND you plan on ordering physical add-ons, you will need to select the SHIPPING add-on as well when you fill out your survey. We'll add it for you later if you forget, but we'd rather you do it now and not be surprised by the final cost.
  • A small number of you may receive multiple surveys. Before you close them out, check to see if you have free items or credit for add-ons in the $0 level. This primarily applies to Phase II backers using different email addresses for Kickstarter and Patreon backers under $10/month.

BackerKit will be providing support for the process and we'll be online as well to assist with more unique cases.

In order for your rewards to ship on time, surveys should be filled out promptly.

Here's the boilerplate text from BackerKit:

We will send an email with a special link to BackerKit surveys. It is important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information for fulfilling your rewards.

You do not need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey, just click on the survey link, fill it out, and you’re all good to go! You will be able to answer questions about your rewards preferences, provide shipping information, and pledge for more “add-ons” if you'd like. You do not have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!

If you decide later that you want to edit your survey response, you can go back to your survey and change it any time before we lock down the surveys for processing.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you will be able to recover your survey here: https://journeyquest-season-3.backerkit.com/.

If you use your Facebook login for your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey will be sent to the email you used for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you would prefer to use, please contact support and we'll get you sorted out!

Progress Update + Gamers the Series
over 9 years ago – Wed, Jul 20, 2016 at 11:42:20 PM

PRODUCTION UPDATE

We have a second cut of Season Three complete and are finishing up another round of notes by this Friday. We're getting close to locking the picture, which means we'll get to send if off to our composer, sound team, and visual effects.

Unfortunately, we still haven't completed BackerKit, thanks entirely to working on getting shipping as cheap and easy as possible, but we continue to make progress. We'll let you know the moment those surveys go out!

We're also about ready to start sharing our behind-the-scenes episodes with you, where Christian Doyle's daily director's diaries will take you deep into the production process.

So far we're still on schedule and we look forward to when we get the go-ahead to share a first teaser trailer!

GAMERS THE SERIES

Meanwhile, as our JQ3 team plugs away at making this season amazing, our Gamers team has launched a Kickstarter for the next episode in the Gamers saga. If you're a fan of tabletop roleplaying, the original Gamers, or Dorkness Rising, this season is made for you!

Check out the preview video below, then take a look at the campaign right here.

While you're waiting for JQ3... here's more comedy for you!
almost 10 years ago – Mon, Jun 27, 2016 at 09:27:11 PM

JQ3 is moving right along through post-production. We've also received word that our European shipping plan will NOT change with the recent Brexit vote, so if you've been worried about that, it's going to be fine.

In the meantime, we're doing a one-week special preview of our latest gaming comedy, Attacking the Darkness, which you can check out right here. If this is your kind of film, you can pledge to receive a copy at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zombieorpheus/attacking-the-darkness-a-feature-mockumentary

Post-production Update

"Friendship"

We have a rough cut! Editor Scott C. Brown worked nonstop throughout May to complete a two-hour cut of the complete Season 3. So what does that mean for the project?

Well, Scott is on his way to England for June. While he's over there we'll be working on notes for the next cut and the the rest of the post team will start roughing in visual effects and music plans. The shoot may have been short, but we still have months of work ahead of us to bring us from raw footage to a completed shot: visual effects, sound effects, sound mixing, scoring, recording, dialogue re-recording, and turning that rough cut into a locked edit. We also have tons of behind-the-scenes photos and videos to edit and release for you.

BackerKit is getting closer as well. We have a phone call tomorrow with a domestic fulfillment service, which should be the final piece of that puzzle. Once BackerKit is ready to go we'll release project surveys and get started on fulfilling custom rewards like videos and Orcish words.

Other Project Updates

In addition to JQ3, we're finishing up the final three episodes of The Gamers: Season 0. Those will be released first to our Patreon backers, then a week later to the public on YouTube. We're also getting the first script for Season 1 complete and are aiming to Kickstart that in early July.

Strowlers completed a day of recent reshoots and is close to picture lock, with some major new visual effects in progress, thanks to the digital whizzes at Imagos. That pilot should premiere at Gen Con Indy in August.

Tomorrow we launch a small Kickstarter for Attacking the Darkness, our comedy feature about a religious group making an anti-roleplaying movie. Shot on the set of another of our projects, this is one of the funniest films we've ever made. We're hoping to release this by Gen Con Indy as well.

Mythica
Mythica

It's not a ZOE project, but we've been avidly following the Mythica Series from Arrowstorm entertainment, an independent five-film fantasy epic. They're Kickstarting post-production funds for the fifth and final film right now and we can't wait to see it. Check it out!

Finally, if you're attending Gen Con Indy this year, take a look in their event system: we're running a ton of cool events, including two Gamers Live performances, screenings, and a booth with all kinds of goodies.
